The Walnut Creek Historical Society, founded in 1967 by members of the Walnut Creek Women’s Club, works with the community and the City of Walnut Creek to “collect, preserve, and interpret the history and heritage of the Walnut Creek area.” Among its many activities, the WCHS operates and maintains the Shadelands Ranch Museum, supports local history programs for area schools, sponsors tours of downtown heritage sites, and keeps a rotating exhibit at the downtown Walnut Creek Library.
